About The Sharpener

Before Old Knives’ Tale, I spent most of my twenties in Texas developing as a sushi chef; working at multiple restaurants and honing my craft, eventually ending up in Dallas, Texas. Behind the sushi bar, the sharpness of a chef’s knives are a subject of pride and friendly braggadocio. Various mentors during my career pushed me in many aspects, one of which was knife sharpening. By the end of my time behind the bar I became very competent with a blade and a whetstone, sharpening knives for other employees, and teaching those willing to learn.

In early 2019, my wife Lisa and I learned we were pregnant. After some discussion, research, and fortunate circumstances, we decided to move to start our family. I, wanting to save on daycare and try new things, opted to be a stay-at-home dad. Having become used to keeping busy, I wanted to figure out how to contribute to our new community while doing so. Thus, Old Knives’ Tale was born.

Fast forward one year. After a successful year of operating in Minnesota, we once again decided to relocate. This time, to Columbus, Ohio. Though our location has changed, our goal has not: to serve and to educate on the value of maintenance. Old Knives’ Tale services homes, restaurants, stylists, craftsman, and more; all the while keeping me sharp while keeping Columbus sharp.
